UPCOMING CHANGES TO THE PRACTISING CERTIFICATE SCHEME

In the last few days the following information has been added to each of the Board of Examiners PCS Professional Development Opportunities pages:

In response to feedback received during the interim period, the Board of Examiners will be making minor updates to the Practising Certificate Scheme. These changes will allow practising certificate holders to lodge a broader, more flexible range of activities to maintain their continuing professional development.

These changes are scheduled for October, with additional information being provided via email to PC holders closer to the release date.

The existing types of learning activities and required hours of CPD will still apply.

For more information, please see our knowledge article "Updates to the PCS".

This aligns with the advice we gave in last month's newsletter and confirms that hopefully the process of choosing and entering hours into the PCS portal will be more flexible and allow each certificate holder more choice to select professional development opportunities that better match your own situation and development needs.

For the moment, if you have an activity that is obviously not on the list of approved activities, we suggest waiting until after the changes are introduced in October to submit as it will have a greater chance of being approved.

Frustratingly, there is no knowledge article with more information as suggested in the update, but we will continue to monitor the BoE website and advise as soon as we get more information.

You can see the notice for yourself at this link (This particular article is for SSE (Coal), but the other HLR articles are identical). https://www.boepcs.qld.gov.au/knowledgebase/article/KA-01080/en-us

QUEENSLAND MINING INDUSTRY HEALTH & SAFETY CONFERENCE WRAP.

It was great to meet so many of you on the Gold Coast for QMIHSC 2025 August 17-20 at the Star Casino, Gold Coast. The interest we received regarding our 'My PCS Expert' software solution was far beyond what we expected - not only from existing SSEs and OCEs PCS ticket holders, but from people expecting to obtain the Certificates soon and even representatives from RSHQ. Welcome to all our new users!

Don't forget to log your hours (up to 12 if you attended both the Sunday afternoon sessions and the actual conference from Monday onwards).

EXPERT TIP:

Once you have installed the My PCS Expert browser extension, each time you log onto the Board of Examiners site My PCS Expert will automatically generate and send you a new personalised report. The more times you log in, the more up to date your report data will be!

We recommend you get into the habit to log in once per month, to allow us to tailor recommendations regarding upcoming activities that are relevant to your PCS position and the categories that you are eligible to receive recognition for the hours.
